After over sixty years of trying to be something I am not and experiencing an eye-opening message from some unexplainable source, my entire outlook shifted. For most of my life, I measured myself against other people, chasing their successes, copying their choices, and quietly believing that who I really was would never be good enough. I tried on different identities, adjusted my personality to fit in, and pushed down parts of myself that felt inconvenient or “too different.”

Then, in a moment I still can’t fully explain, I received a simple but powerful message: “Tom, stop trying to be somebody else. You were created to be yourself.” It didn’t come with thunder or fanfare, but it cut through years of confusion and self-doubt. I felt seen, understood, and, for the first time in a long time, accepted for who I actually am.

Since that moment, my philosophy has been to just be myself—no more pretending, no more apologizing for my true nature. I’m learning to trust my own voice, to honor my own experiences, and to live in a way that feels honest and genuine, even when it doesn’t match what others expect of me.
