Daily Writing Prompt

What does it mean to be a good person?

View all responses

That is up for debate. “Being a good person” is a normative idea shaped by philosophy, religion, culture, psychology, and personal experience, and different traditions can arrive at very different answers to what it means. For some, it centers on following moral rules or religious commandments; for others, it is about cultivating certain character traits like honesty, compassion, or courage, or about reducing harm and increasing well‑being for as many people as possible. Our upbringing, social environment, and even historical moment all influence which of these standards we find most convincing, which means that your definition is not fixed or purely individual but develops over time in conversation with the communities and ideas around you.

Image how peaceful the world would be if we could agree on this simple question.
